Are Christians even fun?

I used to think being a Christian meant following a bunch of rules and living a joyless life. I’d look at the world and wonder, “Is it really possible to have fun while living for God?” Christianity seemed full of restrictions, and I couldn’t picture how anyone could truly have fun while trying to live a life that honored God.

The thing is, my definition of fun was completely off. I thought fun meant partying, drinking, and chasing after all the things the world told me would make me happy. I believed those things were the real “good times.” But what I’ve realized is that living for God doesn’t make life less fun—it makes life more fulfilling. Fun looks different in Him, and my desires shifted when He changed my heart. The joy that comes from living in alignment with God is deeper than anything I could find in the world. It’s real freedom, bringing peace and happiness that last much longer than anything temporary I was chasing before.

Revere completely changed how I looked at fun and joy. Before coming to Revere, I was living for the world—partying and chasing things that didn’t truly satisfy me. I thought that’s what “fun” was. But what I’ve learned is that real joy comes from living for God, and the best moments of laughter and fun are with my Christian friends. When I’m with them I’m filled with true joy, and enjoying life—I realize those moments are more fulfilling than anything I used to chase. If your idea of fun necessitates and idolizes substances, then you are living in ways that don’t honor God. You’re looking for it in the wrong places.

Revere helped me see that when you live for God’s glory, there’s a whole new level of fun and fulfillment. It’s not just about what we do, but about doing it with the right heart and the right people. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of finding a community of people who share your faith. When I’m with my Christian friends—whether it’s laughing over coffee or just enjoying each other’s company—there’s a joy that comes from living for God that I wasn’t acclimated to before. My Christian community has made all the difference.

Christian community is built on unity through faith and purpose, while the world’s idea of community is often centered on shared experiences or interests. Christian community brings a deeper connection because it’s centered on glorifying God together. If you’re wondering if being a Christian is actually fun, I can tell you it absolutely is. Just remember, not everyone is Christ is your best friend and finding you’re people can be hard, I’ve been in that boat and still am!

Revere Bible College, along with Bible studies, and Church gave me the environment to experience true joy in Christ. So, wherever you’re at in your faith and however old you are…I encourage you to find your environment, pray for God to send you’re people, and watch how He transforms your life into one full of joy and fun!
